Our new album features 10 new songs shaping more and more our definition of DESTRUCTO ROCK INFERNO and has been released april 04 by Scarey Records. This is what the folks at www.sleazegrinder.com think about it:

Italian skuzz n' roll champs the Nerds deliver the goods with this hairy n' scary battering ram of…well, I'm not exactly sure WHAT the Nerds are doing here, but it's kinda like a cross 'tween blood-and-brains-on-the-pavement street punk and Motorhead-inspired cocained-frenzy motorsleaze. Like if you took Black Flag and the Necros (long haired, drunk versh, natch) outside and, like, shot at their feet and yelled at 'em to dance, this is the songs they'd write about later, after you split. It's fast, it's furious, and it's most decidedly FUCKED. Usually, Italian bands don't seem this, uh, aggravated, but these cats are PISSED about everything, and crazy, to boot. If this is what passes for nerds in Italy, baby, I don't wanna run in to the BAD ASSES anytime soon. Oh, and just like any cabal of bad guys, they've got a secret weapon in one Monkey Motherfucker, the greatest sleaze rock guitar player-who-may-also-be-a-serial-killer on the market today, man. I mean, this cat sounds like he's actively trying to KILL his instrument the whole time, just a hack n' slash riff-off of acid-punk-sleaze rawk action. Of course, 90% of the time he's merely thrashing towards the finish line, but the Nerds really get cookin' when the band slows down to more chest-thumping, cock rock kinda pace, as on "Satan's Rise" (OF COURSE "Satan's Rise" is gonna be a sex song, baby!), the slinky, kinky "Black Sheep", and the eat 'em and smile flash Bastardry of "Fresh Meat for Hungry People". But, ya know, the fast stuff is pretty rockin', too. If ya dig yr music evil, this is most DEFINITELY the place to get yr kicks. Bitchin' slaughter-barn artwork by El Bat, too. Pretty much the only reason not to get this here Nerds rekkid is if you actually ARE a nerd, man. And you're not, are ya?

MORE REVIEWS

I knew this was something special from the first listen. I've taken my time about reviewing it and have listened to it more times than most releases because I want to do it justice. Not all that many years ago fans of loud, kickass genres of music tended to gather in tribes dedicated to one of metal or punks sub-genres. People who cultivated the "look" of that sub-genre's music naturally swore their allegiance to that sub-genre and in many cases wouldn't be caught dead listening to anything else. It was almost comical when I'd see some extreme fan of a sub-genre walk through the Tower records store I worked at in Philly; I'd laugh to myself speculating as to whether or not they slept in their cool sub-genre identification duds. It seems to me The NERDS seem to exist in direct opposition to that sort of mentality. It sounds like these Italian boys have been listening to the best of the best from one helluva lot of sub-genres. The result is a batch of 10 very well arranged songs with a lot of layered sounds and moods within the realm of kick-assedness. HEY!!! Don't get me wrong!!! This isn't a load of prog-rock bullshit.
The average Hookers or Antiseen fan sitting in his dumpy duplex in Ohio or Missouri is going to react to this CD by grunting out between swills from his PBR can: "THAT FUCKING ROCKS!" as a grin parts his perma-scowl just a tad bit. AND THAT IS GOOD. THAT'S HOW GREAT ROCK AND ROLL SHOULD BE APPRECIATED. I just want to point out the fact that there's a lot more subtle things going on here than many listeners will recognize or need. The tracks "the traitor" "requiem for the forlorn hope" and "burning ambition" (featuring lovely guest guitar work from Florida rock-god Bootleg Bill) are layered in a similar (but different) manner that the Dead Boys layered some of their album tracks. At times guitar player Monkey Motherfucker's leads present an almost cocky, pleasant contrast to a dark metal like rhythm section. To put that in layman's terms, it sounds like the band is triumphantly guzzling cold beers in hell. YEAH.When I write songs for my band I usually take the cowards way out these days and try to make them as simple as possible so we don't fuck them up live (I probably should have gone that route 20 years ago!).I can see this CD equally appealing to experienced musicians who have played in bands who know how much rehearsal time these guys have put in, AND to the average lovable beer bellied Joe who loves his loud music and his weed who smiles when he dumps beer in his goatee. I guess I can draw a wrestling parallel here between the NERDS and Lord William/Steven Regal; his work is sophisticated if you know the art of technical wrestling well (not that I claim to) but very pleasing on a basic gut level too.

The Nerds Rules! Voto: 7,5

Ecco allora sfilare rapidi e devastanti furiosi assalti rock’n’roll (batoste come "Cry havoc", "The black sheep" o "Burning ambition"), sulfurei tempi cadenzati ("Reflections of a broken mirror", "Satan’s rise") e irriverenti deflagrazioni tra il punk e l’hardcore (magistrale "The traitor", violentissima "Harder than life"). The Nerds non scherzano affatto.

Second album for these Italian loudmouths, this time released as cd-only on the band’s home label Scarey. "The Traitor" and "Satan’s Rise" are respectively taken off their splits with the Hammercocks and Frankenstein Drag Queens Of Planet 13, the other eight are brand new and take the Nerds yet another step further into the metal way they’ve taken since a couple of years. There are a few tracks that are just ok to me, but my ears can’t really cope with a metal overdose. If you’re a metalhead though you’ll do yourself a real favour by checking this brand new record out.

What bands do you know from Italy? Huh?! The most bands I know are Heavy- or Psychedelic-Rock, but I think I have my favourite Italian Punk´n´Roll band called The Nerds. I read in the info that the four guys are fans of Antiseen and you can hear that, cause this is as antisocial and dirty as Antiseen without being a cheap clone...this stands alone and rocks like hell. The other reason I like this album so much is that The Nerds bring in a lot of old Hardcore and Punk vibes and that they give a shit about sounding like the rest of the bands in this big thing called Punk´n´Roll or Punk-Rock. I think this is a pretty cool album for all your Punk needs, cause they have songs with the speed of a Zeke, but also grooving Punk hymns like their Confederacy of Scum friends Antiseen. You like it dirty? You like it hard? You will love The Nerds!

This album is less punk and more hardrock-ish sounding than some of their earlier singles, which works rather neatly since "A Black Star..." is the best I've heard yet from these Italian Destructo Rockers. It's Confederacy Of Scum-approved by Jeff Clayton of AntiSeen so you might not wanna fuck with'em, haha. Some of the 10 tracks ("The Traitor" and "Cry Havoc") reminded me of early (pre-Hank) Turbonegro like "Hot Cars..." while tunes like "Eye For An Eye" and "The Black Sheep" are more Motörhead-ish hardcorepunk like The Dead Heroes. Pretty good roughneck anti-social stuff.

So it's about 4 pm on a nice Saturday and the Newcastle's are goin' down smooth and I really fuggin wanna like this band. They have their moments but that's just it... they're moments. They want so badly to be scum punk heathens but no one gave em the memo... you wanna play scum punk you gotta be a scumbag. I guess Gerry Attric from the BULEMICS & good ol Jeff Clayton o' ANTISEEN did liners (as opposed to lines) on this coaster (Jeff seems up to write or do art for anyone. Makes me wonder if he gets loot for the credit these bands get from his scummy name.) and I knew I could smell that stink from somewhere but what we have here folks is not the real McCoy. Sure they ape somma that "Ass Cobra" shit from TURBONEGRO and they have some DWARVES moments but I've said it before and I'll say it yet again... you either rock like a mad motherfucker or you just don't. I bobbed my head along at some points and kinda dug it but I doubt it gets another spin. They remind me of the BULEMICS. Sure they'll make the hair on your balls stand on end live and you'll swear it'll be great recorded but you end up with some downtuned DWARVES ripoffs and lyrics that lack the true debauchery of Mr. Blag Dahlia. It's got the best of intentions but it just doesn't get my dick wet. It's like a pity fuck when the old lady's too tired to really put out. You can get off on it but it just doesn't have the nastiness and filth to it to make you tell your friends how good it was. I'd like to suggest these fellow wops (Probably northern wops no less! Fuckin dog cunts those northern Italians are! Torino address! I KNEW IT!!!) take some lessons from fellow Pisans THE GRABBIES (Sure they moved here but I would too!) and get down and fucking dirty instead of riding the rim of the bowl. These dagos need to guzzle ungowa amounts of booze, snort drugs off some whore's nether regions, and kick out the motherfuckin jams! Bring forth your inner shitbag and quit half assin' it! Anyways, I want to like this, but, much like records from the BULEMICS I doubt it gets another spin unless they truly refine the rock and make it stand out. To all the true fans and believers out there I dare you to stack this pup up next to tunes like "Free Cocaine" from the DWARVES or "Gold Dollar Whore" by JOHNNY MOTEL AND THE FAST FUCKS and tell me which you would rather rock to... It's like they're almost there but they ain't firing all points. One of their plugs must be cracked or gunked up.

Italy's "The Nerds" have been in the Punk game since 1997, and have released a truckload of 7" singles, as well as a couple full-lengths. Unfortunately for me, this is my first exposure to the band. They play a high-octane brand of trashy street Punk, which is laced with a dash of pure evil. If you stuffed the sonic outpourings of bands such as; Carolina's Antiseen (who the band worships), the Hookers, the Hellacopters (Super Shitty To The Max era), Zeke, The Ruiners, the Dwarves, G.G. Allen, and maybe even Motorhead all into a blender, the end result would be the new CD from The Nerds. This is the sort of crazy-ass music that gets bar fights started, and all the shit in your house busted up when you have parties. The Nerds sound like they just did a couple rocks of crack, jumped on stage and belted these ten suckers out on the spur of the moment. Not that they sound sloppy or anything, it's that they sound spontaneous, and they're belted out with a sense of great urgency. It's all very loud, and the boys are very pissed. What they're pissed about remains a mystery, but believe me, they have some serious issues about something. Blasting out this supersonic assault is; Monkey Motherfucker on guitar, Hell P. on drums, The Boss on vocals, and King Taccio on bass. Not much more to say... lots of attitude, lots of guitar, fun stuff! Black Star is the perfect soundtrack for a night of drinking, screwing, and general malfeasance. The Church of Evil Rockers non poteva non approvare. Max
