PRESS REVIEWS
I
knew this was something special from the first listen. I've taken
my time about reviewing it and have listened to it more times
than most releases because I want to do it justice. Not all that
many years ago fans of loud, kickass genres of music tended to
gather in tribes dedicated to one of metal or punks sub-genres.
People who cultivated the "look" of that sub-genre's
music naturally swore their allegiance to that sub-genre and in
many cases wouldn't be caught dead listening to anything else.
It was almost comical when I'd see some extreme fan of a sub-genre
walk through the Tower records store I worked at in Philly; I'd
laugh to myself speculating as to whether or not they slept in
their cool sub-genre identification duds. It seems to me The NERDS
seem to exist in direct opposition to that sort of mentality.
It sounds like these Italian boys have been listening to the best
of the best from one helluva lot of sub-genres. The result is
a batch of 10 very well arranged songs with a lot of layered sounds
and moods within the realm of kick-assedness. HEY!!! Don't get
me wrong!!! This isn't a load of prog-rock bullshit.
The average Hookers or Antiseen fan sitting in his dumpy duplex
in Ohio or Missouri is going to react to this CD by grunting out
between swills from his PBR can: "THAT FUCKING ROCKS!"
as a grin parts his perma-scowl just a tad bit. AND THAT IS GOOD.
THAT'S HOW GREAT ROCK AND ROLL SHOULD BE APPRECIATED. I just want
to point out the fact that there's a lot more subtle things going
on here than many listeners will recognize or need. The tracks
"the traitor" "requiem for the forlorn hope"
and "burning ambition" (featuring lovely guest guitar
work from Florida rock-god Bootleg Bill) are layered in a similar
(but different) manner that the Dead Boys layered some of their
album tracks. At times guitar player Monkey Motherfucker's leads
present an almost cocky, pleasant contrast to a dark metal like
rhythm section. To put that in layman's terms, it sounds like the
band is triumphantly guzzling cold beers in hell. YEAH.When I
write songs for my band I usually take the cowards way out these
days and try to make them as simple as possible so we don't fuck
them up live (I probably should have gone that route 20 years
ago!).I can see this CD equally appealing to experienced musicians
who have played in bands who know how much rehearsal time these
guys have put in, AND to the average lovable beer bellied Joe
who loves his loud music and his weed who smiles when he dumps
beer in his goatee. I guess I can draw a wrestling parallel here
between the NERDS and Lord William/Steven Regal; his work is sophisticated
if you know the art of technical wrestling well (not that I claim
to) but very pleasing on a basic gut level too.

all'epoca del loro esordio "...Just Because She Didn't Wanna
"A Black Star
Burning Trails To Nowhere" ci consegna un gruppo cresciuto
rimangono completamente estranei a qualsiasi clichè, mantenendo

FUN HOUSE # 6 - ITALY
E’
il motto della Confederacy Of Scum: portare il vero rock and roll
alle masse. Rock and roll violento, estremo, senza compromessi,
Importante
(Harder Than Life). Perfettamente in grado di incidere un disco
teso, nervoso, senza alcun calo di tensione. Un gruppo che ci
invidiano oltreoceano.
ROCKERILLA - ITALY
This is the second full-lenght CD by the Nerds, a quartet of handsome
young Italian fellas weaned o a steady diet of gore flicks and
scum rock. Nothing wrong with that. Musically they remind me of
a cross between the Hookers and Raw Power (not the Stooges record,
but the Italian hardcore band which I guess was named after said
Stooges record). Again, nothing wrong with that. I like both those
bands. As raw and nasty as this is-and I would say the CD is pretty
damn raw and pretty damn nasty, in the best way possible- the
production is excellent. With titles like "Eye for an Eye",
"Fresh Meat for Hungry People" and "Requiem for
the Forlhorn Hope" you're not in for any power ballads or
emo-esque introspection, but who wants that shit anyway? Those
who like their rock and roll fast and filthy ala "Blood Guts
and Pussy" era DWARVES, or any era COCKNOOSE, will dig this.

Courtesy
of Scarey Records, Italian Punk Rock sicko's, The Nerds, has blessed
or cursed the world with yet another full length album entitled
"A Black Star Burning Trails To Nowhere". My friends,
in the year of 2004, this is what attitude, mischief and a belly
full of alcohol is all about! A sonic blast of blistering guitar
riffs, drums that sound like cannons and bass lines that make
you wanna slap Jim Baker just because you can. Let us not forget
the outrageous lyrics and vocals that reign down harder than a
Southern Baptist preacher under conviction in a Sunday morning
sermon.
"Black Star" is packed with ten of the most ferocious
tracks to be heard from man. Lead off track, "Cry Havoc",
is a balls to the wall landmine of Punk Rock fury. The bass lines
are astonishing! "Reflections Of a Broken Mirror" is
an unforgiving knockout punch of rock. "The Traitor"
is as PUNK as you can possibly get. The Nerds definitely show
where their influences come from; ala GG, Antiseen and various
C.O.S. bands. "Satan's Rise" is perhaps the greatest
track on the album. Not sure whether it's the Satanic laughter
or the fact that I have slipped off to the darkside. The vocals
are so powerful and glorious on this track that no words could
ever describe the feeling from hearing it at ear drum bursting
decibels. I'd call it my "Satanic Mantra" if you will.
"Eye For An Eye" is a moonshine guzzling chicken race
to the edge of a cliff. Fast, loud and obnoxious! "The Black
Sheep" is a heavy dose of mean guitars and unrelenting vocal
screams. There are a few more tunes on this revival of PUNK ROCK
GENIUS, but I will save them for the listeners to judge. The Nerds
have plenty of audio and video clips for you to check out on their
site. Go there and be consumed by the disgusting love of The Nerds!

Prendete
drink annacquati tanto in voga oggi.
come “A Black Star Burning Trails To Never” ha nel
corazzata. Love it or leave it.

Here's
punk and roll with some Motorhead worship via Italy that not only
sounds good but kicks some ass. Loud, obnoxious , and most likely
a drunken mess when they get together. This band has parts of
Antiseen and Electric Frankenstein meets GG Allin. Scum rockers
take note of this bastard offspring out of Italy.

Wow!...these
Italians do not remind me of Bill Gates-fledging sporters of serious
pocket protectors or of peculiar little candy. In fact if nerds
had been like this in High School, most would remember nerds as
people they were terrified of. Think The Dwarves, ANTiSEEN and
a handful of Confederacy of Scum bands and you know the territory.
What sets them apart from the majority of their peers is the far
more metallic sound and riffing of the guitar. Other than that,
all the expected is here: non-stop energy, tear my larynx vocals
(decipherable though barely), rock n' roll on steroids and amphetamines
rhythm section. Imagine Motorhead jamming with Black Flag on Judas
Priest's equipment. Highlights are the anthemic closer "Burning
Ambition" and track 8, the pick of the litter, unbridled
punk metal & roll fury of "Harder Than Life". It's
nice when a band saves the best for the end.

This
is some evil angst punk rock. I have had enough of that happy
punk shit. If you are going to send me an album with any type
of punk influence, this is what you should send me. In the vein
of GG Allin, The Bulemics, Dwarves, The Nerds throw down a punk
rock sound with some pissed off vocals and intense head-pounding
fury. Old School. I love that guitar sound. That’s cool.

The Nerds deliver another batch of awesomely evil hymns on their
second full length, A Black Star Burning Trails To Nowhere. This
release is faster, heavier, and certainly won't disappoint. In
addition to the many new tracks, the Nerds re-recorded "Satan's
Rise", which was previously only available on 7", split
with the Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13. These Italian
heathens draw a heavy influence from Antiseen, early Dwarves,
and other American perv punk bands, but with just a little more
Book of Revelations plus blood and guts. Whether it's hardcore
punk you crave ("Harder Than Life") or straight up hard
rock ("Fresh Meat For Hungry People"), the Nerds have
crafted it well. After several 7" splits and comps over the
years, it's great to hear a new full CD worth of Nerds. Pick this
one up and go sacrifice some virgins already. Rating: 4/5

The bands which comprise the Confederacy of Scum have really taken
the world by storm. It seems like quality like-minded outfits
are popping up all the time, worldwide. The Nerds could be counted
near the top of that group, as they seem to possess more of a
unique face than most. On A Black Star Burning Trails To Nowhere,
this Italian quartet cultivate and blend their influences masterfully,
while retaining a sense of self.
Stylistically, the Nerds come off like Turbonegro would if their
primary inspiration was Antiseen instead of W.A.S.P. That said,
as much as the Nerds wear their influences on their sleeves, they
always wind up sonding like themselves. This music has a decidedly
hardcore-tinged scum punk slant to it, but it leans just as heavily
on hard rock. The clear and powerful production on A Black Star
Burning Tails To Nowhere especially accentuates and compliments
the metallic elements of this material. The Nerds further help
their cause with really good songwriting. Of the blatantly C.o.S.
inspired material, the Cocknoose-esque "Harder Than Life"
and "The Traitor," with its killer double bass drum
blasts, rise as highlights. Still, it's when the Turbonegro influence
creeps in that the Nerds are at their most dangerous. The brightest
from that end of the spectrum include "Satan's Rise,"
"The Black Sheep," and "Requiem For The Forlorn
Hope." These are the album's best songs, all with tempos
moderate enough for their hooks to take hold in listeners. Fans
of any the aforementioned bands or styles would be well served
to pick up a copy of A Black Star Burning Trails To Nowhere. The
Nerds prove themselves to be a worthy entry into this particular
realm of music. It's only a matter of time before all possible
interested parties catch on. A very welcome surprise, indeed.

Somit bietet "A Black Star Burning Trails To Nowhere"

The
latest release from Italy's destructo rock gladiators has a very
long title, does it not? Just look at all those fucking words!
I guess they're trying to show off their mastery of the english
language or something. Not only do the Nerds crush your puny skull
with ten dark and defiant tracks of god bashing centurion rock
'n' roll, they do it with style. What sets this album, and for
that matter this band, apart from their contemporaries lies in
sound quality and diversity. The production here is top shelf;
clean drums, huge guitar and supremely heavy-ass bass are accompanied
by maniacal vocals and deeply blasphemous lyrics. I especially
enjoy the double bass action executed by their drummer, chugga,
chugga, chugga!!! Mucho heavy, lots of groove and full of energy.
Great music to listen to while skating streets or burning churches.
I'm telling you now, the Nerds are pro-wrestling material. Keep
both eyes on this band.

Italian skuzz n' roll champs the Nerds deliver the goods with
this hairy n' scary battering ram of
well, I'm not exactly
sure WHAT the Nerds are doing here, but it's kinda like a cross
'tween blood-and-brains-on-the-pavement street punk and Motorhead-inspired
cocained-frenzy motorsleaze. Like if you took Black Flag and the
Necros (long haired, drunk versh, natch) outside and, like, shot
at their feet and yelled at 'em to dance, this is the songs they'd
write about later, after you split. It's fast, it's furious, and
it's most decidedly FUCKED. Usually, Italian bands don't seem
this, uh, aggravated, but these cats are PISSED about everything,
and crazy, to boot. If this is what passes for nerds in Italy,
baby, I don't wanna run in to the BAD ASSES anytime soon. Oh,
and just like any cabal of bad guys, they've got a secret weapon
in one Monkey Motherfucker, the greatest sleaze rock guitar player-who-may-also-be-a-serial-killer
on the market today, man. I mean, this cat sounds like he's actively
trying to KILL his instrument the whole time, just a hack n' slash
riff-off of acid-punk-sleaze rawk action. Of course, 90% of the
time he's merely thrashing towards the finish line, but the Nerds
really get cookin' when the band slows down to more chest-thumping,
cock rock kinda pace, as on "Satan's Rise" (OF COURSE
"Satan's Rise" is gonna be a sex song, baby!), the slinky,
kinky "Black Sheep", and the eat 'em and smile flash
Bastardry of "Fresh Meat for Hungry People". But, ya
know, the fast stuff is pretty rockin', too. If ya dig yr music
evil, this is most DEFINITELY the place to get yr kicks. Bitchin'

pervaderle. Stupende per intensità e capacità di
risultare subito orecchiabili e anthemiche, "Satan's Rise",
"Eye For An Eye" e "Requiem For The Forlorn Hope"
Il singer The Boss è
For Hungry People", e non a caso uso la parola "fresh",

disco (dopo il debutto del 2000 "Just because she didnt
wanna fuck") e suggella un percorso evolutivo in continua
espansione. Nati
Orange Juice From The Crypt e Frankstein Drag Queens From Planet
Avendo come punti di riferimento Antiseen, GG Allin, The Bulemics,
solide. Innanzitutto lappoggio della Scarey Records, agguerrita
etichetta di Torino. Ma soprattutto un suono essenziale e potente,
basato su componenti tutte fisiche e muscolari. La vocals sono
infatti sgraziate, i cori altamente contagiosi, le ritmiche veloci
e compatte, riff e assoli affilati ed incisivi. In parole povere
tutto funziona che è un piacere. In particolare risulta
Ecco allora sfilare rapidi e
devastanti furiosi assalti rocknroll (batoste come
"Cry havoc", "The black sheep" o "Burning
ambition"), sulfurei tempi cadenzati ("Reflections of
a broken mirror", "Satans rise") e irriverenti
traitor", violentissima "Harder than life"). Un
campionario di prodotti che faranno la gioia dei più ferrei
consumatori del rock più crudo. The Nerds non scherzano
affatto. Fate attenzione, vederli dal vivo potrebbe procurarvi
un infarto

Second
album for these Italian loudmouths, this time released as cd-only
on the bands home label Scarey. "The Traitor"
and "Satans Rise" are respectively taken off their
splits with the Hammercocks and Frankenstein Drag Queens Of Planet
13, the other eight are brand new and take the Nerds yet another
step further into the metal way theyve taken since a couple
of years. There are a few tracks that are just ok to me, but my
ears cant really cope with a metal overdose. If youre
a metalhead though youll do yourself a real favour by checking
this brand new record out.

What
bands do you know from Italy? Huh?! The most bands I know are
Heavy- or Psychedelic-Rock, but I think I have my favourite Italian
Punk´n´Roll band called The Nerds. I read in the info
that the four guys are fans of Antiseen and you can hear that,
cause this is as antisocial and dirty as Antiseen without being
a cheap clone...this stands alone and rocks like hell. The other
reason I like this album so much is that The Nerds bring in a
lot of old Hardcore and Punk vibes and that they give a shit about
sounding like the rest of the bands in this big thing called Punk´n´Roll
or Punk-Rock. I think this is a pretty cool album for all your
Punk needs, cause they have songs with the speed of a Zeke, but
also grooving Punk hymns like their Confederacy of Scum friends
Antiseen. You like it dirty? You like it hard? You will love The
Nerds!

In
the raw styles of Motorhead, Nashville Pussy, Antiseen, and Zeke,
comes Italy's The Nerds, a full blown evil Punk Rock and Roll
band. The Nerds' music is simple, dirty, and fast. All the elements
are there to put them into the category of the greats I mentioned
before, but something is missing. I can't quite put my finger
on it. Maybe they are trying to hard to present an image by sporting
confederate flags and that whole thing. Overall, though, I thought
this was an ok album, although the packaging made me expect a
little more. The vocals leave a little to be desired, but still
a good attempt. It would be something to check out if you are
into the Punk, Rock and Roll sound, if anything for the fact that
they are from Italy, a totally unexpected place to hear this kind
of music.

This album is less punk and more hardrock-ish sounding than some
of their earlier singles, which works rather neatly since "A
Black Star..." is the best I've heard yet from these Italian
Destructo Rockers. It's Confederacy Of Scum-approved by Jeff Clayton
of AntiSeen so you might not wanna fuck with'em, haha. Some of
the 10 tracks ("The Traitor" and "Cry Havoc")
reminded me of early (pre-Hank) Turbonegro like "Hot Cars..."
while tunes like "Eye For An Eye" and "The Black
Sheep" are more Motörhead-ish hardcorepunk like The
Dead Heroes. Pretty good roughneck anti-social stuff.

So
it's about 4 pm on a nice Saturday and the Newcastle's are goin'
down smooth and I really fuggin wanna like this band. They have
their moments but that's just it... they're moments. They want
so badly to be scum punk heathens but no one gave em the memo...
you wanna play scum punk you gotta be a scumbag. I guess Gerry
Attric from the BULEMICS & good ol Jeff Clayton o' ANTISEEN
did liners (as opposed to lines) on this coaster (Jeff seems up
to write or do art for anyone. Makes me wonder if he gets loot
for the credit these bands get from his scummy name.) and I knew
I could smell that stink from somewhere but what we have here
folks is not the real McCoy. Sure they ape somma that "Ass
Cobra" shit from TURBONEGRO and they have some DWARVES moments
but I've said it before and I'll say it yet again... you either
rock like a mad motherfucker or you just don't. I bobbed my head
along at some points and kinda dug it but I doubt it gets another
spin. They remind me of the BULEMICS. Sure they'll make the hair
on your balls stand on end live and you'll swear it'll be great
recorded but you end up with some downtuned DWARVES ripoffs and
lyrics that lack the true debauchery of Mr. Blag Dahlia.
It's got the best of intentions but it just doesn't get my dick
wet. It's like a pity fuck when the old lady's too tired to really
put out. You can get off on it but it just doesn't have the nastiness
and filth to it to make you tell your friends how good it was.
I'd like to suggest these fellow wops (Probably northern wops
no less! Fuckin dog cunts those northern Italians are! Torino
address! I KNEW IT!!!) take some lessons from fellow Pisans THE
GRABBIES (Sure they moved here but I would too!) and get down
and fucking dirty instead of riding the rim of the bowl. These
dagos need to guzzle ungowa amounts of booze, snort drugs off
some whore's nether regions, and kick out the motherfuckin jams!
Bring forth your inner shitbag and quit half assin' it! Anyways,
I want to like this, but, much like records from the BULEMICS
I doubt it gets another spin unless they truly refine the rock
and make it stand out. To all the true fans and believers out
there I dare you to stack this pup up next to tunes like "Free
Cocaine" from the DWARVES or "Gold Dollar Whore"
by JOHNNY MOTEL AND THE FAST FUCKS and tell me which you would
rather rock to... It's like they're almost there but they ain't
firing all points. One of their plugs must be cracked or gunked
up. Two Tub Man

to the band. They play a high-octane brand of trashy street Punk,
which is laced with a dash of pure evil. If you stuffed the sonic
outpourings of bands such as; Carolina's Antiseen (who the band
worships), the Hookers, the Hellacopters (Super Shitty To The
Max era), Zeke, The Ruiners, the Dwarves, G.G. Allen, and maybe
even Motorhead all into a blender, the end result would be the
new CD from The Nerds. This is the sort of crazy-ass music that
gets bar fights started, and all the shit in your house busted
up when you have parties. The Nerds sound like they just did a
couple rocks of crack, jumped on stage and belted these ten suckers
out on the spur of the moment. Not that they sound sloppy or anything,
it's that they sound spontaneous, and they're belted out with
a sense of great urgency. It's all very loud, and the boys are
very pissed. What they're pissed about remains a mystery, but
believe me, they have some serious issues about something. Blasting
out this supersonic assault is; Monkey Motherfucker on guitar,
Hell P. on drums, The Boss on vocals, and King Taccio on bass.
Not much more to say... lots of attitude, lots of guitar, fun
stuff! Black Star is the perfect soundtrack for a night of drinking,
screwing, and general malfeasance. For more info, why not check
the band out at thenerdsrockinferno.com. RATING = 7.5
UROTSUKIDOJI'S PAD WEBZINE- CANADA
Cazzo i The Nerds di Voghera son tornati piu' pervertiti, piu'
frustrati e piu' incazzati che mai! "A black star burning
nobile etichettaccia torinese Scarey Records, dopo un primo "Just
because she didn't wanna fuck" uscito nel 2000 per l'olandese
calibro di Frankestein Drag Queens From Planet 13, Tunnel Rats
quella "No shit! A GG Allin & the jabbers tribute"
dovessi citare dei pezzi vi consiglio l'indemoniata "The
Traitor", "the Black Sheep" dal riffone finale
Hungry people". Ora aprite le vs. orecchie e preparatevi
a rimanere folgorati dal loro Destructo Rock Inferno, definito
sempre dagli stessi come : l'ultimo suono che puoi sentire prima
di cadere stramazzato a terra in una pozza del tuo stesso sangue
ancora caldo. The Church of Evil Rockers non poteva non approvare.

SANMARTINRECORDS WEBZINE, ITALY
Dopo
Meat for Hungry People" e "Burning Ambition" con
uno spaventoso assolo di Bootleg Bill in veste di chitarrista
ospite.
