This
seven inch release was split with FRANKENSTEIN
DRAG QUEENS FROM PLANET 13, band of actual MURDERDOLLS
singer Wednesday 13. Both bands provide 2 killer originals. This is
one of the most valuable collectors' items we released so far.

MORE REVIEWS Long
before Wednesday 13 graced the cover of Metal Edge with the Murderdolls,
he was wreaking havoc in the hills of North Scarolina, with his first
outfit of brain eaters, The Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13. What
I hold in my hand today is a very rare 7" split that the Queens did
with a band out of Italy named The Nerds. The split was released on Scarey
Records, also out of Italy, and as far I know there aren't many left.
These can go for outrageous amounts on ebay, so if you want this divine
little piece of wax at a good price, I suggest you get your rotting corpse
on over to Scarey Records and pick it up! On FDQ's side of the split you
will find something very interesting - the original version of "Dawn
of the Dead" in which the Murderdolls reworked for their debut "Beyond
the Valley of the Dolls". This one happens to be my favorite of the
two. On this split you will hear the song the way it was intended, raw
& intense with a sense of urgency. I guess in those days Wednesday,
and the crew were real hungry for BRAINS! The assault of the second track
"Anti-You" is the equivalent of a 12 gauge blast to the face.
"Anti-You" was never released anywhere else other than this
split. The tune is filled with at least 30 or 40 obscenities in the minute
and half it is playing! Fast as hell and unforgiving - just the way FDQ
has always been. On the flipside of the split we have The Nerds. As I
already mentioned, this band is out of Italy. These guys are Punk as FUCK!
"Satan's Rise" is an evil attack of loud raunchy guitars and
ashy mouthed vocals. The hooks and riffs in this song are very catchy
while remaining heavy. "Punk Rock Loser" is your basic 1,2,3,4,
Punk song. Again we have plenty of raunchy guitar sounds & that raspy
voice that seems to never go away! Just from these two songs I have become
intrigued with this band, and I would love to hear more. So, as I mentioned
earlier....this won't be available too much longer, and if you are anything
like me, you need your Murder-Happy-Fun Time! So don't miss out on all
the braineating & blood splattering any longer. Andy - The
Queens kick out a fun little "Dawn of the Dead" tribute number,
even cribbing the tag line from the movie for the chorus. ("When
there's no more room in hell
"). It's average demi-metal from
guys in bad Gwar make-up. Movie-wise, I always prefer "Day of the
Dead to Dawn" because I feel it is more poignant take on the zombie
problem, with a certain pathos that "Dawn"
lacked. Their
second track is a pretty decent scumrock number. Too bad the make-up just
manages to make them look absurd, and not in a good way. The confusing
part is this: these "guys" are Confederacy of Scum approved;
yet they break-up so one of them can join a band with guys from Static-X
and Slipknot? What the fuck? Jeff Clayton better rescind their membership
cards ASAP. The Nerds are just bad wannabe scumrockers. Another entrant
in the trying too hard to offend everybody to bother with making any decent
music contest. It's crap like this that gives bands like the Spider Babies
and Meatmen a bad name. (RK) The
Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 (couldn't you get a shorter name?)
start with a melodic Horror-Punk song, and end with a little faster Punk
song. Very good indeed, where have they been all my life? I would really
like to hear some more with these guys. The Nerds continue with their
Destructo-Punk, and they play 2 songs that are really good, gimmie more
of this shit Pizza dudes! Well, I can really recommend you to check this
out if you're into Horror-Punk and/or Destructo-Punk - Damned good indeed!
Not
recent but worth to be listened is the excellent split that Frankenstein
Drag Queens divided with the NERDS. Two songs each, and if on the first
side the Drag Queens open fire with two punk'n'roll bullets (Dawn of
the Dead is really great), on the other side the italian band replies
with two destructive hardcore-punk songs in the vein of early Black Flag.
Be sure to check out this great record. |
